About
One wouldn’t expect such an expressive voice combined with such a charm on a 24 year old platinum blonde beauty. Nina June is an exceptionally bright surprise to many when singing. A powerful yet comforting experience as she has proven so far.
After three years of studying Nina made the courageous decision of independently financing her own debut album “Little Dreams”: “It was a huge investment, but it gave me a lot of freedom to record all of this, in a very exciting surrounding, all of it was absolutely worthwhile doing“. She co-produced her first record with the help of a young talented Dutch producer.
Little Dreams is an album title standing for what has always remained a spark of hope. ”You shouldn’t be evading your dreams, whatever they may be. When dreams reoccur, the only thing left to do is chasing them! Little Dreams is a compilation of little stories, influenced by the emotions of folk and singer-songwriter pop, as well as the soothing sounds of jazz. “My mother was a fan of Tracy Chapman, Eva Cassidy or Annie Lennox, which I used to fall asleep to“. A remarkable track on the album is a cover of Chris Isaak’s ‘Wicked Game’. ”It’s a beautiful, yet sad song. I love trying to relive the atmosphere of that song and many others, every time I walk the stage.”
A variety of songs, some bold, other fragile, mark the very essence of Nina June and her capability to capture the audience, especially during live shows. She isn’t afraid to step a crowd and sing some songs a cappella or accompanied by piano or guitar, leaving her audience impressed and moved.
“Little Dreams” has already reached the Dutch album charts in 2008 without a major record company to back her up and she appeared on most of the major Dutch broadcasting networks, such as TMF, Radio 1, Radio 2, 3FM and the NOS News. The first copy of ‘Little Dreams’ was awarded to Ronald Plasterk, the Dutch Minister of Culture, in The Hague on the 8th of may 2008.
In 2009 Nina June got in touch with the Dutch bestseller author Patrick van Rhijn, who moved her deeply with his first novel “Away from Lila”, an autobiographic story about a father who is fighting to keep the custody of his little girl whom he took care of for three years in a row. Together with Marlon Penninkhof, her guitarist, she decides to write a song for his second novel “Fathertown”, based on Patrick van Rhijns story. Especially for his book she makes an exception and for one time writes a Dutch song called “Wonderwater”. Together with 3 tracks from “Little Dreams”, this song and its video clip is enclosed in the first 10.000 copies of the book. The book and single have been released in March of this year.
Nina June will spend most of this years summer working on her next album, which is expected to be released in 2010. By the end of this year she will tour the theatres with her own show.
